About us

Welcome to our About us page

Mayfield and Easthouses is one of 15 community councils in Midlothian. It is statutory body with responsibility for serving and representing the interests of the local community both with the local authority and other public bodies.

Community Councils are the most local tier of democratic representation in Scotland. They bridge the gap between local authorities and communities helping to make public bodies aware of the opinions and needs of the communities they represent.

Here in Mayfield and Easthouses we think our community council should be more than that. We play a very active role in supporting the local communities in both villages and are the driving force behind many successful community events. Two of the biggest being the annual summer Gala Day and the traditional Guy Fawkes Night fireworks display. The display is the biggest in Midlothian and attracts thousands of people from all over the area.
